“The dispute is politically motivated – Bob Crow wants Tube Lines trashed.  We can’t be held to ransom by a militant union.”

- Caroline Pidgeon, Lib Dem London Assembly member, on the news that 1,000 RMT members are going on strike this month after rejecting a 4.85% pay rise

I forgot to mention that all the people going on strike earn at least £30,000 – some of them well over £50,000 – but they still feel that in this economic climate, their actions are justified.

    Unbelievable.

There’s also the point that we’d all be better off if tubelines was crushed along with all the other pfis …. giving private companies excessive profits for taking bugger all risk is stupid.

Pfi`s are usually there because they are off the balance sheet and massage borrowing .
On salaries here is a good one
‘Transport for London employs 232 people on more than £100,000 per year. The home office employs 43 the treasury seven’
Can`t say I object to strikes for pay rises. It doesnot cause inflation , it is inflation. I happily agree that RMT are scum but then so are the Fire brigade and the Police , equally extortionate .
Unions generally do have a function and I actually have a bit of a soft spot for them..up to a point

232 people?! For crying out loud. I bet you loads of them are doing jobs that are completely unrelated to running trains – advertising, media, PR etc.

My own experience of being in a union has been extremely positive, but I get really angry when they start trying to box above their weight. PFI is indeed just a manipulation of government spending and has already racked up a debt of almost £100 billion that we’ll all be paying for many years from now.
